Restrictions

Listed below are all of the reasons a student could be restricted from receiving OSAP assistance. To determine the specific reason you are restricted, please contact your financial aid office. At that time you can discuss the reason for the restriction and determine if there is anything that you can do to have the restriction removed. If so, the ministry will conduct a review to determine if you are eligible to apply for OSAP assistance.

Restriction Reasons

You may be restricted for the following reasons:

  • You have received OSAP funding for the maximum 340 weeks of study.
  • You have not repaid (i.e., defaulted) your Canada Student Loan.
  • You have not repaid (i.e., defaulted) your Ontario Student Loan.
  • You have not repaid (I.e., defaulted) your Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loan.
  • You have not repaid (i.e., defaulted) your Loan Forgiveness Program overpayment.
  • You have not repaid (i.e., defaulted) a grant overpayment.
  • Your file is under investigation.
  • You have not maintained satisfactory academic progress.
  • You have not repaid (i.e., defaulted) a bursary overpayment.
  • Your income has been verified with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and it has been determined that there is a significant variance between the income information that you provided on your OSAP application and the information provided by CRA.
  • You have not repaid a Student Venture Capital Loan.
  • You have a loan overpayment for at least two academic years.
  • The institution you plan to attend is not approved for student loan purposes.
  • You are in receipt of federal and/or provincial Debt Reduction in Repayment.
