Maintaining the interest-free status on your previous loans

2021-22 OSAP Application for Part-time Students

While you’re in school (studying full-time or part-time) your part-time student loan doesn’t have to be paid back and the interest is paid for you by the Government of Canada.

After you leave school, your part-time student loan will need to be paid back. When you completed your Part-Time Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (PTMSFAA), you agreed that you will begin repayment six months after leaving school.

If you have OSAP loans from full-time studies, but are continuing school part-time, you will have to start repaying your full-time loans. Any previous part-time loans can be placed into interest-free status so that you don’t have to repay them while in school. You’ll have to complete a Canada Students Loans Program Confirmation of Enrolment Schedule 2 form if you’re not applying for further OSAP assistance.

If you decide to continue with school, but are not applying for OSAP, you must ensure that your loans are placed into interest-free status. If you’re in part-time studies, you can do this for your part-time loans only.
