Unable to or exempt from filing taxes with CRA

2021-22 OSAP Application for Full-time Students

If income entered on your 2021-22 OSAP application (by you or a family member) cannot be verified with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) because a 2020 income tax return was not filed, you may be able to have the 2020 income verified through a review.

Acceptable reasons for not filing taxes with CRA may include:

  • Not being a resident of Canada in 2020.
  • Not getting a Social Insurance Number (SIN) until 2021.
  • Being exempt from filing taxes because of Indigenous person status.

Contact the financial aid office at your school for more information and what documentation may be required, including the completion of a “Canadian Non-Taxable and/or Foreign Income” form.
