How an overpayment affects your grants

2021-22 OSAP Application for Full-time Students

Normally, grants are money you don’t need to pay back. However, if your application is reassessed because of a change to your information and it’s determined that you received more grant(s) than you’re currently eligible to receive, you’re considered to have an overpayment. In this case, some or all of your grant funding may be converted to a loan.

If your grant funding is converted to a loan, the amount of your grant(s) will be added to your student loan debt at the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC). It will be included in the calculation of the monthly loan payment you’ll make once you’ve left school.
