Child Care Bursary (CCB)

Purpose

The Child Care Bursary provides supplemental funding to help address your child care costs for your 3rd, 4th or 5th child, provided they are living with you full-time during your study period (or at least 50% of the time in the case of joint custody) and you have child care costs for each of your children.

Amount of Aid

    If you are married or are in a common-law relationship

    The maximum amount of aid available is based on the lower of:

      • Your actual child care costs; or
      • $36 per week of study for your third child,
      • $24 per week for your fourth child, and
      • $30 for your fifth child.

    If you are a sole-support parent

    The maximum amount of aid available is based on the lower of:

      • Your actual child care costs; or
      • $71 per week of study for your third child,
      • $47 per week for your fourth child, and
      • $59 per week for your fifth child.

Who Can Get This Aid

You must meet the eligibility requirements and qualify for Ontario funding through OSAP for Full-Time Students in order to be considered for this bursary. You must also meet the following additional requirements:

  • You have three or more children in the following categories living with you full time during your study period (or at least 50% of the time in the case of joint custody), with each child having child care costs:
    • 11 years of age or younger, and/or
    • 12 years of age or older and in need of child care because they have a disability, illness, or injury
  • Your spouse (if applicable) must be employed or attending full-time studies during your study period.
  • You’ve been assessed as having at least $1.00 of financial need under the Ontario portion of the Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loan.

Use the 2016-2017 OSAP Application for Full-Time Students. This application is available online as well as in a paper format.

Documents You Need to Provide

You will be required to provide documentation regarding your children, such as proof of their birthdate and proof of disability (if applicable). See the OSAP Application for Full-Time Students for complete details on your required documents.

Deadlines

The deadlines for the 2016-2017 OSAP Application for Full-Time Students are as follows:

    Application Deadline

    Your application must be received by your financial aid office no later than 60 days before the end of your study period.

    Document Deadline

    All required documents must be received by your financial aid office no later than 40 days before the end of your study period.

    Note: Documents received after your deadline date will not be considered.

    Review Deadline

    Any review request must be received no later than 40 days before the end of your study period.

What Happens After You Apply

Your eligibility for this bursary is determined as part of the processing of your OSAP application. Once your application is received, it’s processed in several stages that include:

  • Confirming all required information and documents have been provided.
  • Determining whether you meet all the eligibility requirements.
  • Verifying the following information:
    • Your Social Insurance Number and personal identification information (name, date of birth, and gender) is verified with the Social Insurance Registry.
    • Your credit history is verified with a credit reporting agency (Equifax).

When determining your eligibility, your income (and that of your spouse or parent(s), if applicable) will be verified with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Results from the CRA income verification process may impact your eligibility for this bursary if any of this income information is not accurately reported on your application.

What Needs To Be Done Before You Can Get Your Aid

Your OSAP Application for Full-Time Students, along with all required documents for your application must be received and processed before any funding is released. In addition, your school must confirm your enrolment before any of your funding can be disbursed to you.

Note: No funds are released until on or after your study period start date.

How You Get Your Aid

Your Child Care Bursary will be issued as part of your OSAP for Full-Time Students funding.

  • If you are in a one-term study period (12-20 weeks in length), your Child Care Bursary will be issued in one installment.
  • If you are in a two-or-three term study period (21-52 weeks in length), your Child Care Bursary will be issued in two installments.

Log into the OSAP website to see the current status of your application. You can log in at any time even if you requested that the ministry mail your information on the status of your application.
